JEC WORLD 2020
Composite materials such as CFRP and GFRP are now conquering industrial series production. Processing these materials is a challenge, but modern
laser processes make short cycle times with constant quality possible. The Fraunhofer ILT has developed a wide range of laser-based technologies for processing composite materials and will be presenting them at the JEC World 2020 from March 3-5, 2020 in Paris.
Within the CarboLase project, a process chain was developed to drill 3D-formed CFRP semi-finished products (preforms) with a robot-guided ultra-short pulsed laser in a reliable and efficient manner.
Together with the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV), the researchers investigated how extremely light hybrid components can be produced using laser microstructuring of magnesium sheets and injection molding.
Within the AGeD project, the performance characteristics and long-term stability of laser-based hybrid compounds were investigated.
