When laser beam sources of high power and beam quality are used in laser material processing, delivery systems are required to guide the radiation at high dynamics to the processing location and to focus it precisely. In close cooperation with research partners, Fraunhofer ILT develops system solutions for customized production tasks that provide high speeds and efficiencies. For example, optical scanning systems based on polygon scanners and acousto-optic deflectors reach very high processing speeds in surface processing with ultrashort pulse lasers. These systems make it possible to scale existing processes and to use new machining processes in the industry. Combinations of high-precision, fast laser position control and laser scanners with synchronously coupled machine axis systems are used for high-speed machining in laser beam cutting. In addition, Fraunhofer ILT develops system solutions that enable active path correction for combined beam positioning by robots and scanners using adapted sensors.
For control technology, Fraunhofer ILT focuses on sensor integration in existing systems, real-time control of components and sensors, and high-precision position detection, position control and component position detection. For this, the institute develops software modules for the control and automation of processes that are optimized especially for laser material processing.
The range of services offered includes feasibility studies, the development of tailor-made machines and controls, the integration of developed processes into existing manufacturing environments, as well as workshops and individual consultation.
