As part of the BMBF1’s „Research Campus – Public-Private Partnership for Innovation“ funding initiative DPP Research Campus investigates new methods and fundamental physical effects for the use of light as a tool in the production of the future. For this research program RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and now 27 industrial companies are pooling their resources in a complementary manner at a common location.
At the Photonics Cluster on the RWTH Aachen Campus the interdisciplinary research teams have about 5000 square meters of office and laboratory space at their disposal for their collaborative work in complex fields of laser technology research.
As part of the Federal Government’s High-Tech Strategy the BMBF is using this initiative to support strategic and long-term cooperation between research and industry „under one roof”.
Dr. Christian Hinke, Director of the DPP Research Campus emphasizes: „Our form of cooperation is efficient, we work interdisciplinary at an innovative location, which is Aachen. The prospective funding for the 2nd phase offers us the possibility to optimize and expand our concept. In addition to our novel industrial partners, our professional and technical competence will be further enriched by our new colleagues working in the newly occupied Research Center for Digital Photonic Production (RCDPP).”
Starting with the 2nd funding phase Prof. Constantin Häfner will officially assume the position of Prof. Poprawe as speaker of the DPP Research Campus, who entered planned retirement in November 2019. In this context Prof. Häfner also took over the management of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT and the Chair for Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University.
