University Studies

Students of natural sciences and engineering with an interest in laser technology will find an ideal environment at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, the Chair for Laser Technology LLT, the Chair for Technology of Optical Systems TOS, the Chair for Digital Additive Production DAP and the Nonlinear Dynamics of Laser Manufacturing Processes Instruction and Research Department NLD at RWTH Aachen University to acquire fundamental and practical knowledge.

The advantages of this internationally recognized competence center are obvious: state-of-the-art infrastructure, excellent industrial contacts, methodological competence in project management, team spirit and entrepreneurial spirit, international employees, short communication channels and stays abroad in the subsidiaries in the USA and France. Based on their experience at the Fraunhofer ILT, some employees set up their own company after completing their thesis or doctorate.

Studies & Chairs

The RWTH Aachen University offers with its Chairs for Laser Technology LLT, for Optical Systems Technology TOS, for Digital Additive Production DAP and with the Nonlinear Dynamics of Laser Manufacturing Processes Instruction and Research Department NLD an outstanding competence cluster in the field of optical technologies.

Laser Tutorial

The word LASER is an acronym for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". It actually represents the principle itself but is also used to describe the source of the laser beam.

Completed Theses

On our German website you will find an overview of the bachelor and master theses written at the Fraunhofer ILT and at the associated chairs of RWTH Aachen University.

Laser Colloquium

At the "Laser Colloquium" of the Fraunhofer ILT, representatives from industry will present current lectures on the topic of "LASER" at regular intervals. More information can be found on our German website.

Prof. Loosens monochromatic lighting orchestra

Light concert at the student event on 28.9.18: Jan Maetschke, Jonas Rachner and Nicole Grubert played the laser harp live at the Katschhof, which turns light into music. Simon Herwig from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln accompanied the trio with singing.

The musical instrument was created as part of a project at the Chair of Optical Systems Technology TOS.

Student University of Mechanical Engineering 2018: Research with Laser Light

From August 6 to August 10, 2018, school students were able to spend a week getting to know research, teaching and university life at RWTH Aachen University.
The research at the Fraunhofer ILT also became tangible: The participants spoke with students and researchers and experimented with light.

1st Night of 3D Printing: The Future of Industrial Production

On the first night of 3D printing on July 12, 2018, the DPP research campus, the Chair of Digital Additive Production DAP at RWTH Aachen University, and the Fraunhofer ILT 80 Aachen University gave visitors the opportunity to talk to 3D printing experts and learn about the latest research results.

TOS Hackathon: A laser symphony concert

Microcontrollers, programming, lasers and music: For one week, 15 students were able to become creative and build and test laser music instruments. The first TOS Hackathon of the Chair of Optical Systems Technology TOS of the RWTH Aachen University took place from May 22 to 25, 2018.
