Studies

Students of natural sciences and engineering with an interest in laser technology will find an ideal environment at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, the Chair for Laser Technology LLT, the Chair for Technology of Optical Systems TOS, the Chair for Digital Additive Production DAP and the Nonlinear Dynamics of Laser Manufacturing Processes Instruction and Research Department NLD at RWTH Aachen University to acquire fundamental and practical knowledge.

The advantages of this internationally recognized competence center are obvious: state-of-the-art infrastructure, excellent industrial contacts, methodological competence in project management, team spirit and entrepreneurial spirit, international employees, short communication channels and stays abroad in the subsidiaries in the USA and France. Based on their experience at the Fraunhofer ILT, some employees set up their own company after completing their thesis or doctorate.

At the "Laser Colloquium" of the Fraunhofer ILT, representatives from industry will present current lectures on the topic of "LASER" at regular intervals. More information can be found on our German website.

The word LASER is an acronym for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". It actually represents the principle itself but is also used to describe the source of the laser beam.

Laser Precision Tools Are Changing the World

As part of the "RWTH Explains the 2018 Nobel Prize" series, Prof. Reinhart Poprawe from the Chair for Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University & Fraunhofer ILT gave a lecture on precision tools made of laser light on December 1, 2018. He explained the developments for which the researchers A. Ashkin, D. Stickland & G. Mourou were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2018.

 

5 to 12: RWTH Science Night

The Science Night of the RWTH Aachen University took place on 9.11.18. Science was explained with lectures, experiments and exhibitions in an understandable way and made tangible. The mixture with music, art and culture provided a lively science that can be explored by all generations.

The evening was rounded off with the closing party "Professors' Night".

 

Prof. Loosens Monochromatic Light Orchestra

Light concert at the student event on 28.9.18: Jan Maetschke, Jonas Rachner and Nicole Grubert played the laser harp live at Katschhof, which turns light into music. Simon Herwig from "Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln" accompanied the trio with singing.

The instrument was created as part of a project at the Chair of Optical Systems Technology TOS, RWTH Aachen University.

 

"Schüleruni Maschinenbau 2018": Research with Lasers

From August 6 to 10, 2018, school students were able to spend a week getting to know research, teaching and university life at RWTH Aachen University.

The research at the Fraunhofer ILT also became tangible: The participants spoke with students and researchers and experimented with light.

 

1st Night of 3D Printing: The Future of Industrial Production

On the first night of 3D printing on July 12, 2018, the DPP research campus, the Chair of Digital Additive Production DAP at RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer ILT gave 80 visitors the opportunity to talk to 3D printing experts and learn about the latest research results. 

 

TOS Hackathon

For one week, 15 students were able to build and test creative laser music instruments. The first TOS Hackathon of the Chair of Optical Systems Technology TOS at RWTH Aachen University took place from May 22 to 25, 2018.
